Dexter Community Schools is helping to raise support for the Faith in Action nonprofit, the lead charity organization for support of low income households.

"We're hoping that Dexter families and schools can raise some support for this amazing organization," Dexter High School Principal Kit Moran said in an email to parents. "From the recession to the tornado, FIA has helped local families deal with life's emergencies.

Since 2013, FIA has helped families in Chelsea and Dexter with 1,400 food orders, 2,939 clothing room visits, use of medical equipment free of charge to 618 individuals (an increase of 98 from last year), assistance with housing, utility and transportation to 156 households, including food stamp assistance, 107 job counseling sessions with a specially trained volunteer, together with Dexter Family Service FIA sponsored 102 families for Christmas, 50 Thanksgiving baskets, 75 flu shots, 113 backpacks filled with school supplies

In 2012, FIA merged with Chelsea Grace Clinic to provide free medical help to the uninsured.

The FIA also has on hand a staff social workers who help families access other support agency services such as Avalon Housing, Dept. of Human Services, and Community Mental Health.

"Faith in Action provides good value, with over 10,000 on-site volunteer hours," Moran said. "FIA delivers nearly a half million dollars of in kind value to our communities. Thank you for considering a donation to Faith in Action."

To donate, make checks out to: Faith in Action, and send them to Cornerstone, Attention: Ingrid Charlson (Dexter Schools liaison). Donations will be collected on Wednesday, April 23rd. Tickets for the evening are $100 or $450 for a table of six.
